Tim was born in Durban
and is the 4th child of John and Elizabeth Blore. He grew up on
Foleshill Farm in East Griqualand, which still in the Blore
family, and this is where his love for farm life started. After
attending Treverton and Michaelhouse, Tim graduated in 1959 from
Natal University with a BSc in Agriculture after which he joined
the British Colonial Service. During this time he attended
Cambridge and the University of the West Indies, and then served
3 years as a Coffee Agronomist at Kenya Coffee Research Station.
Whilst in Kenya, Tim met and married Caroline Clarke. Carol
is the second daughter of Tom and Audrey Clarke, who had
immigrated to Kenya from Britain in 1936. Caroline grew up in
Nakuru, Kenya and was educated at Lamuru Girls School and then
went on to study Horticulture in the UK. She has always taken a
keen interest in her garden, and takes enormous pride in it,
especially during the spring and summer when all is in full
bloom!
Because the prospects for a South African in newly
independent Kenya in the 1960's were not promising, Tim and
Carol returned to South Africa where they farmed dairy, beef
cattle and sheep on Rooiwal Farm near Kokstad, East Griqualand
until 2002.
Tim and Carol have 3 children - Michael, Andrew and Gillian.
Because neither Michael nor Andrew intended to farm, Tim and
Carol sold their farms Rooiwal and Waterfall, and have now
retired to a smallholding named Mzuri Farm, which is just
outside the country town on Himeville. Here they let out the
land and enjoy the country lifestyle. As mentioned, Carol enjoys
her garden and plays fun bridge in between her hectic social
schedule. Tim keeps himself busy as a part-time estate agent and
play non-competitive bowls.
